MOKPO JAYOU MARKET

Mokpo Jayu Market is located near Mokpo Station and is started out as a gathering of individual shops opened and operated by local owners. It was officially recognized as a market in 1999, quickly growing in size after that; the market currently has over 220 shops.

 

In continuation of the market’s growth, the Namjin Night Market started opening in 2015. The night market takes place on Friday and Saturday evenings and is filled with vendors selling popular marketplace foods.

Hongtaksamhap, which can only be eaten in Mokpo, means eating well-fermented skate and steamed pork slices served with Kimchi, and cool makgeolli.

GAETNAEUM RESTAURANT

Gaetnaeum is a restaurant famous for live whip arm octopus dishes and Beef Tangtang. Tangtang, derived from the sound of chopping fresh live octopus, is a favorite food especially in Mokpo, Yeongam, and Muan where fine-legged octopus is caught.

The representative menu, “Hanwoo (Korean beef) Tangtang,” is chopped to make it easier to eat, and seasoned with red pepper, sesame, and savory sesame oil.

The tip of eating here is to add octopus to this and eat it together, then mix the remaining Tangtangi as an ingredient for bibimbap.

In particular, Korean beef soup with abalone is popular as a health food.

NAJU GOMTANG HANOKJIP

Naju Gomtang is the most widely distributed and settled in Jeonnam meat culture. Najugomtang, cooked in a traditional way, is made by simmering beef bones over very high heat for a long time, then chopped beef brisket and intestines, then boiled again for a long time. GWANGYANG BULGOGI SPECIALIZED STREET
