Boseong Green tea Festival History

image.png

Boseong is proud of being the largest tea producing region and the birthplace of the tea industry with a long history. On May 12, 1985, the first tea culture event in Korea was held under the name of "Dahyangje" at a tea garden at the foot of Hwalseongsan Mountain. Events such as the Dasinje to pray for a good tea harvest, tea leaf peeling, and tea making were held. Since then, the 2nd Dahyangje in 1986 was merged with the 12th Citizens' Day event and named Dahyangje. In 2009, the festival name was changed from Boseong Dahyangje to Boseong Dahyang Festival, and it has been reborn as a true Korean tea culture festival.

The Boseong Tea Festival is a nationwide event attracting numerous domestic and international tourists, from tea enthusiasts to families. Designated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism since 2012, it is a representative tea culture festival in Korea. Held annually around May around the Boseong Tea Fields, the festival features a variety of programs, including the National Student Tea Etiquette Contest, the Korea Master Tea Selection Contest, tea making workshops, and tea leaf picking.
